In the Israeli Conflict, the Heiling Hand of Jesusistan
You might remember this dustup from awhile back. It was kind of a side-issue in the 2008 Presidential campaign.
John Hagee, the controversial evangelical leader and endorser of Sen. John McCain, argued in a late 1990s sermon that the Nazis had operated on God’s behalf to chase the Jews from Europe and shepherd them to Palestine. According to the Reverend, Adolph Hitler was a “hunter,” sent by God, who was tasked with expediting God’s will of having the Jews re-establish a state of Israel.
Going in and out of biblical verse, Hagee preached: “‘And they the hunters should hunt them,’ that will be the Jews. ‘From every mountain and from every hill and from out of the holes of the rocks.’ If that doesn’t describe what Hitler did in the holocaust you can’t see that.”
Yes, Hitler the Hunter came to the Earth to do the Lord’s work. This attitude among Jesusistanis is not an uncommon one; the simple fact of the matter is that most Jesusistanis are more or less open anti-Semites. A lot of people seem to think that the unwavering support the Jesusistanis have for Israel “proves” that they aren’t anti-Semites, but that belief is wholly mistaken. In order for the “Rapture” dogma of the Jesusistanis to come to pass, the Jews have to be in Jerusalem to be burned alive and sent to Hell. Understand that this, and only this, is why the Jesusistanis are such unabashed, staunch supporters of Israel.
Now… given that the Jesusistanis want to see the Jewish people immolated on the streets of Jerusalem, you’d think that the Israeli Government wouldn’t be too awfully anxious to listen to the Jesusistanis. Logically, why would they? The Jesusistanis are always going to push for war in the region, because they need the Israelis to be belligerent enough to trigger their own destruction. The Jesusistanis don’t sound like very good partners for the long-term viability of the State of Israel, do they?
Well…. to you and me they don’t. But to the right wing asshats in charge of Israel, it apparently doesn’t matter that the people who are such staunch “supporters” of Israel also have Nazi-like attitudes towards them.
Tell me that isn’t fucked up.
Did Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu deliberately sabotage the Obama administration’s attempt to restart peace talks? Netanyahu now claims he was blindsided by the announcement of housing construction in East Jerusalem, but his activities the evening of March 8 suggests that the ambush may have been premeditated.
Shortly after Vice President Joe Biden’s arrival in Israel, Netanyahu and Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat were the headliners at Pastor John Hagee’s two-hour Christians United for Israel (CUFI) extravaganza at the Jerusalem Convention Center. Ambassador Michael Oren and Deputy Foreign Minister Daniel Ayalon were also in attendance. There was no ambiguity. It was a blatant and unabashed rejection of “dividing the land,” filled with repeated references to Jerusalem as the undivided capital of the Jewish people. The impromptu event had not been listed on CUFI’s calendar, but as soon as Hagee introduced Netanyahu, the political significance was apparent.
In a repeat of a similar event twelve years ago, the Israeli leader and the American televangelist had again taken preemptive steps to obstruct peace talks.
Are Israeli voters unaware of Hagee’s prior speeches? Do they not understand that Hagee has an agenda, and the agenda isn’t for Israel to be a viable state? Why on Earth do the Israeli voters continue to elevate people who will aid and abet their own destruction to positions of power?
It is a pity that we can’t just strip Heiling Hagee of his citizenship while he’s in Israel and leave his ass there. Let him go preach a few of his Hitler sermons to the Israelis. Let him reveal WHY he “supports” Israel so strongly.
And let US be rid of this dangerous clown.

It takes all my self control, dedication to the philosophy of the Founders, and respect for folks like Brother Tim, to not scream for the banning of all religion.
It’s harder than quitting smoking.

Without a doubt, Jim. I may not agree with what Lenin did, but I understand it.
