Apples, Oranges, and FOX “News”
I absolutely love me some distortion, and I know just where to go to get my fill of it.
Monica Crowley, filling in for Bill-O on “The Falafel Fella Factor,” is trying real hard to put the square pegs in the round holes. Her “logic,” like most Rushpubliscum fecal matter presented as logic, is laughable-until you realize that a few million of us will take it as if Moses himself brought it down to us on stone tablets.
Yes, it is a knee-slapper to try to paint Katie Couric as having a “liberal” bias; those of us who watched her gush all over Lecondel Rice, and then excoriate John Edwards, know a lot better than that. But Monica goes on to make herself look like an even bigger dolt.
Yeah. As if that was possible, you say? Well, it’s possible.
On Fox News “O’Reilly Factor” Thursday night, guest-host Monica Crowley, filling in for Bill O’Reilly, went after “CBS Evening News” anchor Katie Couric for her recent comments that the economic situation has made the United States an “angry nation.”
“Way to attract more viewers, Katie,” Crowley said, asking, “Is this another example of the elite left-wing media looking down on Americans or is Katie right about the mood of the country?”
Crowley and Tim Graham, director of media analysis for the conservative Media Research Center, attempted to argue that Couric’s comments come only as President Obama’s approval ratings fall.
“I think it’s one thing to say the country is angry,” Graham said. “I think that’s fair. When she goes on to talk about how there’s too much disrespect, that’s when you’re beginning to see that whole idea of how unfortunate that we would have people who would so publicly and angrily disagree with President Obama.”
“I’m wondering, Tim, where Katie Couric was and if her concern about an angry nation when the left was crucifying President Bush as a war criminal and Hitler, when Code Pink was in Condoleezza Rice’s face, when there are wall-to-wall, left wing, vicious attacks,” Crowley responded. “Where was she in that concern?”
So Monica seems to think that people comparing the moronic monkey to Hitler rises to the level of armed nutters at town hall meetings, viciously racist posters, nutters insisting that the darkie is a closet Muslim who is really Kenyan, and bumper stickers quoting Psalms that wish violent death upon the “leader.”
No. Not once did I ever see anything posted anywhere that advocated a violent disposal of Chimpy, nor did I ever see his citizenship questioned. To say that what was said about the moronic monkey is even within 10 ZIP codes of what has been advocated by the right wing regarding this President isn’t distortion-it’s flat-out lying. FOX “News” has, in my opinion, consciously attempted to whip these unhinged nutters up enough to get one or more of them to actually go TRY to do some harm to this President. That was never done by us of the left, even by the most virulently anti-Chimpy among us.
In the 5 years this blog has been around in its present form (and I forgot about my 5th anniversary last month, damn all,) I got exactly one comment advocating violence (in a sideways fashion, but still) to Chimpy. I deleted the comment and banned the poster. Right now, I’ll bet in 30 seconds I could find 10 comments on blogs advocating violence to our President and other high officials-and all of them will have been written by FOX-absorbing useless sponges.
We on the left, at the very least, believe in the Constitutional process. We don’t claim to believe in it while we shit all over it. And if not believing in violence as an answer to a political problem makes me a bleeding-heart pansy, then water me.
