An Education Too Late
I applaud the President’s plan to teach financial literacy in high school (although I’m sure our racist Rushpubliscum friends will figure it’s really some kind of Che Guevara Marxist indoctrination class.) I think that knowing how to keep a handle on your finances is a great thing.
The thing is, the Republican Depression of 2008 almost certainly means that most high school graduates won’t have to worry about managing their money, since they’ll either be unemployed, or the meager wages they might earn at the jobs left after Chimpy’s generous jobs-outsourcing programs won’t even pay enough to keep the lights on.
Really….. they might as well start a blacksmithing class while they’re at it. Good paying jobs, just like blacksmithing, are now a part of American history, and I see absolutely no evidence that this Administration is going to be doing much to change it.
The U.S. Treasury and Education departments announced plans on Tuesday to cooperate to improve financial education for high school students to enable them to make smarter decisions about money.
The effort comes in the wake of a survey from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority and the Investor Education Foundation showing that young adults display much lower financial literacy than older generations.
“The reality is that all children don’t know the basics of saving and investing. It’s a skill they need to be successful in our economy,” Education Secretary Arne Duncan said in a statement.
The departments said they will focus their efforts on poorer neighborhoods with few financial services, which according to the survey, suffer the most from a lack of access to financial education and resources. Starting in early 2010 they will provide teachers a “toolkit” developed by outside experts to help them integrate financial topics into their curricula.
The departments said the Obama administration was committed to putting Americans on a sounder financial footing in the wake of the worst economic crisis since the 1930s Great Depression.
Nah…. not really. After that Republican Depression, Franklin Roosevelt laid the foundations that would eventually create a strong middle class and a prosperous society. So far, I haven’t seen this Administration so much as do any groundbreaking.
This is still a corporatist Government. Until Government returns to its previous role as an arbiter between interests, the inequities that plague us during this Republcan Depression are here to stay.

They really need to get moving on higher education. Heavily subsidize schooling, especially medical related vocations.

Education is an investment in the future. But the elitists of the Rushpubliscum Party see education as the province of the rich. Why educate a lowly servant?

“Why educate a lowly servant?”
Well if they can make the servant a slave to student loans, then then they are all for it. They do love their money. More than their God. By a long ways.

If the Rushpubliscums had it their way, most kids in this country would never be educated to even a point where they could consider student loans.
