Way to Go, Asshats

In news I am sure will surprise absolutely no one, it seems to be open season on police officers these days.
It also isn’t hard to figure out why.
The airwaves are full of idiots like Glenn Beck (one of the direct inspirations for the murders of 3 police officers in Pittsburgh) telling people that the Gubmint gon’take away their guns, and Bachmann telling her lunatic supporters that it’s getting time for a new rebellion. Given that there will always be a measurable number of us who are both disturbed and suscptible to suggestion, it goes to reason that the streets would become a lot more dangerous for the upholders of the public order.
Really, it’s time to drag these shitbags into court. Sue them, and sue them some more. The 1st Amendment simply was not meant to cover inflaming disturbed people.
A police officer is gunned down in his patrol car in Penn Hills, Pa., while waiting for backup. Near Seattle, four officers starting their day at a coffee shop are ambushed by an ex-con with a handgun. Another four officers are shot to death in Oakland, Calif., after a traffic stop gone awry.
Across the nation, 2009 was a particularly perilous year for officers involved in gun disputes.
The number of officers killed in the line of duty by gunfire increased 24 percent from 2008, according to preliminary statistics compiled by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, a national nonprofit organization that tracks officer-related deaths.
As of Saturday, 47 police officers have died nationwide this year after being shot while on duty, up from 38 for the same time in 2008, which was the lowest number of gunfire deaths since 1956, according to the data.
Over the past decade, small spikes in gunfire deaths have been common, but experts say they are surprised by the number of officers this year who have been specifically targeted by gunmen.
“There’s an increasingly desperate population out there,” said Eugene O’Donnell, a professor of police studies at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York. “Other than in rare cases for ideological reasons, we really haven’t seen people taking on the cops head-to-head. Something is amiss. It should be cause for grave concern.”
Yes, an increasingly desperate population, to be sure. But remember that these desperate people are being told every day by the likes of Beck and Bachmann that it the GUBMINT who is destroying their country (that part is true, but Beck and Bachmann seem to have a bit of amnesia about WHO’S Gubmint put us in this situation.) If you convince people that the bad old Gubmint is gonna put them in boxcars and ship them off to camps after stripping them of their guns, those who might believe this bullshit are far more likely to act to prevent it.
Glenn and Michelle will undoubtedly be too modest to stand up and take recognition for what they’ve done so much to set off in this country, so I will do it for them.
Way to go, you fearmongering pieces of shit.

I hope this is just another “spike” year. However, this is exactly the kind of statistic I was afraid we would start to see.
Folks on the edge already are slipping over the line and resorting to violence. The backlash from the police state will also, probably, be violent.
If you review the Great Depression, it doesn’t take long to recognize a serious uptick in violence. All the most violent gangsters were produced during that time. Increased law enforcement did little to stop it. Prohibition increased the problems. Only economic and social recovery led to a change.
Unlike the ’30′s, Americans today are far less self sufficient. Americans are also more alienated from family and neighbors. Their work environment is hostile and insecure.
The violence of yesterday will seem minor compared to the violence of tomorrow.

Really glad I found your site. It’s a real eye opener seeing all the Nazis running around, right in our midst. I never knew there were this many.
They are like Hitler in some regards, as they all claim to be religious, and use religion as an excuse to hate whenever they can. It worked for Hitler, I guess I see their logic.

I am prepared if the cons do manage to start a civil war. Some sure act like that’s what they want. The only consolation is the fact that most cons are Chicken Hawks. The talk tough, but they are chickens. On the other hand, if we have to lock a bunch of them up we just don’t have the prison space. Guess we’ll have to double them up with some of the brothers. They can get educated. Plus they can’t complain about the prisons, as they are mainly privately run affairs now, and they won’t have to worry about the incompetent government being involved. I’m sure they’ll find other things in prison to bitch about. Oh well.

RayGun,
You got me laughing about sticking teabaggers in privatized cells with the brothers and getting educated.

I entirely agree with your point that Glenn Beck and company are hugely irresponsible with what they say and their motives are more than suspect but I have some trouble drawing a direct cause and effect here.
Crime, violence of all sorts and agitation against the government all tend to increase in times of economic hardship. Given that we’re seeing some of the worst economic times in nearly a century, I’m tempted to assume that this has much more to do with it than right-wing blowhards.
I’m also simply not willing to give Glenn Beck or Rush that much credit for anything.

By the way, did you know Michele Bachmann was Gretchen Carlson’s Nanny as a child?
See what happens if you don’t screen child care workers properly.

Serious fellow sane persons. If the crazys do manage to start a civil war, assassinate a leader, or ???, there will be major civil unrest, and the police will be next to worthless, as they were in the LA riots after the Rodney King trial (also after Katrina). Prepare to hunker down or prepare for worse. Think about it at least.
Hope I don’t sound like a crazy.

Yeah, Jim, I knew it. It’s funny how she never mentions it when she’s lobbing Michele those softballs.

RayGun, the country is destined to split into about 5 pieces. Let’s hope the pieces decide to go their own way peacefully.
