EAT IT, Haters

If you read this rag at all, you know I’m pretty hard on the Phillistines that make up a sizable number of Texas politicians AND voters. Texas, after all, thought Chimpy was good enough to elect to the Governor’s Office TWICE, and they’re also guilty of serving up Guv Goodhair, Kay “Ra-Ra” Hutchison, John Cornholyn, and a whole lot of other disgusting freaks of nature who should be in chains instead of in office.
But, you know, this time Houston got it right, and I’m proud of them. I hope this excellent vote for common sense becomes the practice all over Texas. The Jesusistanis and hatemongers have done a lot to turn life in what could be a great place into something akin to an experience just a hair north of hell. Maybe this marks some kind of a turn of the corner.
Houston voters chose Annise Parker to replace Bill White as the next mayor of the fourth-largest U.S. city by population.
Parker won by a margin of 53.6 percent to 46.4 percent for Gene Locke, according Harris County election data. Parker, 53, is in her third term as city controller. Locke, 62, is a Houston attorney and former chief of staff for U.S. Representative Mickey Leland.
White isn’t running after serving the limit of three terms. He has been at odds with Parker about the size of the deficit in the city’s budget. Parker said the city faces a $103 million revenue shortage, while White put the potential gap at $25 million after a series of cost reductions.
Parker and Locke were forced into a runoff in November after Parker won 31 percent of the vote and Locke won 25 percent, according to the city secretary’s office. Two other candidates, Peter Brown, a city councilman, and Roy Morales, a retired air force officer, were eliminated in the primary.
Parker served on the city council for six years and worked in the oil and gas industry for 20 years.
Yeah, that last bit is certainly a knock, but it is Texas, after all.
I wish Mayor Parker well.

I’m truly stunned. Thrilled but, stunned.
Well, there goes the meme that tiny Austin is the liberal island in a vast sea of red state loons.
Of course, Parker was the victim of black pastors who hurled vile and depraved homophobic bon mots at her during the runoff campaign. No surprise here, after all, we’re talking about Texas.
Here’s wish Annise Parker all the best. Way. To. Go! ^5^!!!

That’s excellent news. Her opponent, being black, could have siphoned off a lot of black and liberal voters. Glad that didn’t happen.
