The Rushpubliscums. Wrong Today, Wrong Tomorrow
The idiot Rushpubliscums whined and cried when Nixon (a Republican himself, incidentally) created the EPA, claiming that the poor, poor corporations just couldn’t afford to clean up their smokestacks and treat their liquid effluent, rather than just discharging it into our rivers and lakes.
As it happened, of course, emissions were reduced, the discharge of pollutants was greatly reduced into our watersheds, and-get this-a lot of jobs were CREATED in the technologies needed to clean up our act.
Nobody knows, of course, how many people didn’t DIE because of the tougher environmental regulations. What we do know is that the Rushpubliscum gloom-and-dooming was a load of shit, like just about all other Rushpubliscum claims turn out to be.
Keep that in mind as you watch their near-hysteria regarding climate change. They are hellbent on promoting the continued degradation of the environment we all have to try to survive in. Why? For the same reason they stand up in just about any case. It’s all about the short-term profits, and everything else be damned.
Even if you don’t accept the theory of climate change (which has just about been proven conclusively at this point,) you cannot deny the FACTS regarding air and water pollution. Out fouled air leads to many thousands of kids with asthma diagnoses every year, and the water in some areas is directly responsible for what are called “exotic” cancers and birth defects. Curbing the pollutants that are said to be responsible for climate change will ultimately be good for all of us, because everything we clean up makes life on this planet more sustainable, for a longer period of time. There is no arguing this.
However….. Rushpubliscums, the “culture of life,” don’t seem to be all that interested in the QUALITY or SUSTAINABILITY of life. Nope-we can live in a hell of our own creation, as far as they’re concerned. Profits are all that matters.
Citing e-mails that critics say cast doubt on global warming, congressional Republicans called on the Obama administration Wednesday to suspend efforts to combat climate change until the controversy is resolved.
In a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency, the lawmakers requested that a pending move to regulate greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act be halted, along with plans to limit emissions from vehicles, power plants and other sources, “until the agency can demonstrate the science underlying these regulatory decisions has not been compromised.”At issue are more than 1,000 electronic messages that were apparently obtained and released by a computer hacker. Most involve scientists at the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit in Britain, one of the few institutions in the world that collect the historical temperature data relied on by climate researchers.
At the heart of the controversy is whether human activity causes climate change. Skeptics argue that global temperatures may be warming naturally. They say that the e-mails suggest that scientists may have manipulated evidence to bolster their claims. The scientists dispute that and say that their words have been taken out of context.
Republicans used otherwise unrelated hearings Wednesday in the House and Senate to demand congressional investigations, but Obama administration officials and congressional Democrats pushed back.
“The e-mails do nothing to undermine the very strong scientific consensus . . . that tells us the Earth is warming, that warming is largely a result of human activity,” Jane Lubchenco, who heads the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, told a House committee. She said that the e-mails don’t cover data from NOAA and NASA, whose independent climate records show dramatic warming.
And it’s still like I said-power plant and tailpipe emissions are responsible for untold millions of human illnesses every year, and a lot of those illnesses are both chronic and expensive to treat. WHO the hell loses if we clean the air up some more?
I’ve been watching this shit swirl for awhile now, and the more of it I see, the more convinced I am that our entire economic model is junk and needs to be scrapped. When you can deliberately decide to release poisons to protect your bottom line, there’s something really flawed with your entire business model. At least that’s my take on it.
