You Know, He Might Be Right
I’ve spent a great deal of time castigating right wingers as being stupid, brain damaged, sexually repressed, ignorant….. you know what I mean. I was fairly secure in believing that stupidity (often caused by a limited gene pool) was the answer to the “why” of the Rushpubliscum “base.”
But I heard something today that now has me wondering about everything I had so smugly assumed to be true.
If you’ve never heard of Jack Rice, catch him on MSNBC sometime, or Air America, if you have a local affiliate. He’s a former CIA officer turned harsh critic of Rushpubliscums, and he makes a lot of sense. He often says things that cause you to stop and say “well, yeah, why not?” Like he did with me.
It is Jack’s contention that today’s so-called “conservatives” aren’t necessarily stupid. Jack postulates that they are, in fact, autistic, and he offers the following points as his reasoning.
They repeat catch phrases and words muttered less for what they mean, and more for the soothing effect of saying them over and over again: “Deregulation is good.” “Health care equals socialism.” “You don’t support the troops.”
If you’ve ever known an autistic kid, this is a key aspect of their overall behavior; they repeat an action over and over again. And you cannot reach them by any known method, because they kind of shield themselves from reality with whatever it is they say or do.
If Jack Rice is right, it is no wonder Michael Wiener (sometimes known as “Savage”) is so hostile to the diagnosis of autism. If these people got help, he’d be out of an audience. I always wondered why Wiener was so utterly mean when he started talking about autism, but Rice’s theory means that it all makes sense to me now.

Bee beat me to it, JR. How dare you insult people with autism by comparing them to Repuglicans?
