It Keeps Getting Weirder
As Christopher of From The Left reports today, Caribou Barbie is now threatening, through her lawyer, to sue everybody in sight for being mean to her. Specifically, they don’t like the swirl around the Wasilla Sports Complex story now being offered as a possible reason for her resignation. As I noted the other night, the Brad Blog has presented some interesting items regarding the Wasilla Sports Complex contract and Chez Hillbilly, the Wasilla house built by Caribou Barbie in the same era.
First of all, the threat is about as bullshit as it gets; this would be like the President suing people for the stupid “Kenyan” crap the right wing tried to use to create doubts about his citizenship. As a public official, Palin would have to know that these things happen, and it is exceedingly difficult to stop them. By having her lawyer threaten to sue everybody, Caribou Barbie has only ensured that more people will pick the story up, and be talking about it, including the heretofore-ignorant MSM. Not the best move she ever made.
It’s kinda sad, because the FBI’s announcement regarding the Wasilla Sports Complex would have blunted this on its own, maybe even before the MSM would report anything on it. Caribou Barbie, herself, has ensured that the story is now gaining traction, and will gain more traction.
Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is not under investigation by the FBI, the federal agency’s Alaska spokesperson has said.
“There is absolutely no truth to those rumors that we’re investigating her or getting ready to indict her,” Special Agent Eric Gonzalez told the Los Angeles Times Saturday. “It’s just not true.”
On Saturday, Palin’s lawyers came out fighting against allegations that her resignation was prompted by a brewing scandal. On Friday, bloggers including Shannyn Moore and Brad Friedman suggested that Palin is under federal investigation over her activities in the development of the Wasilla Sports Complex, a multi-million dollar facility in Palin’s home town built while she was mayor of the town.
Frankly, I’m still far from convinced; Brad Friedman flat-out said he has “several independent sources” confirming that there is some kind of investigation presently going on. Given that the FBI has, especially over the last few years, been less than forthcoming about its activities, I’m on the fence on this one; I’ll wait to see what else Brad and Shannyn Moore up in Alaska have to say about it.
If you’ve seen that press conference she had, and you also saw her interview with Katie Couric, then you know that she was obviously frazzled, really bothered by something. Given that apparently her own family didn’t even know what was coming, and you really have to wonder what could cause her to move so fast. Logically, quitting as Governor halfway through a term dooms any national aspirations she may have had; the ads against her would write themselves. She could move, perhaps, to someplace like Alabama and get elected Senator (Alaska would now never consider replacing Murkowski with someone as unstable as Palin is,) but she’ll never be on a Presidential ticket again, unless the Aryan Nations decides to start running candidates.
OK, we don’t know about the Wasilla Sports Complex story. We DO know, however, that it fits right in with the pattern we’ve seen since she appeared on our radar screens. She billed the State of Alaska for feeding and housing her family in Wasilla, in HER FAMILY HOME, and only paid Alaska back when what she’d done became public knowledge. She also billed Alaska for feeding and lodging her children on countless trips to destinations they were NOT invited to by any individual or organization. And we all know how she fleeced the RNC to boot.
This threat of hers is, I believe, just another Palin attempt to shut her critics up, no more or less remarkable than her activities in “Troopergate” or her firings of literally dozens of Alaska officials for not toeing her line. Anyone who is so thin-skinned cannot ever be seriously considered fit for any public office, now or in the future, the present stories about her notwithstanding. Sarahpoleon can be safely called unethical, and unintelligent, and unable to tolerate even the slightest criticism, Whether or not she can also be called criminal remains to be seen.

Don’t discard the possibility of Saint Sarah or her freeloading husband having some sheet action with someone other than each other.

I think Larry may be on to something… that Caribou Bubba seems like kind of a shifty loose cannon sort of guy.
It’s good that she isn’t under investigation by the FBI, because that would just make her all the more of a hero in Wingnut World.
