Who’s to blame for the California fires??
Despite the fact that wildfires are an annual event throughout the west, the nutters KNOW who to blame.
Glenn Beck says California residents are to blame for setting their own homes ablaze!!
I think there is a handful of people who hate America. Unfortunately for them, a lot of them are losing their homes in a forest fire today.
Who knew San Diego and Orange County was filled with commie-pinko America haters?? I thought the “America haters” only lived in Hollywood!! And as for anyone who lost their home who wasn’t an “America hater”, well, they were just collateral damage in the ‘War on Liberals’!! Beck has no compassion for you.
Michelle Malkin blames crazy Democratic “environMENTALists” for opposing BushCo’s “Healthy Forests” plan to cut down every tree in America. After all, no trees, no forest fires!!
Lawsuits have tied up the president’s Healthy Forests Initiative passed in 2003.
Prediction: Look to the Bush-bashing Left and the nutroots Democrats to mimic the Kossacks and blame the wildfires on the Iraq war–even as the environuts continue to litigate while the West burns.
But of course my favorite nutter excuse comes from FOX News!!
This morning on Fox News, hosts of the show Fox and Friends blamed the wildfires in California on al-Qaeda. They pointed to a 2003 FBI memo, which raised the possibility that al Qaeda may try to set wildfires around the western United States.
I love this one because if it was really al-Qaeda, and not downed power lines or domestic firebugs, it means that the Homeland Security department has been a total failure!! Think about it, we know that BushCo had the 2003 FBI memo just like they had the 8/6/2001 PDB warning “bin Laden determined to strike US.” And even after all the terror alerts and color codes, after the gathering of all governmental resources under the Homeland Security banner, after all the warrant-less wiretapping of phone calls and e-mails, after all the terrorist watch lists (now listing 860,000 potential terrorists!!), it means BushCo failed to protect us from another terrorist attack!! Nobody could have predicted 9/11, but they have no excuse for letting this attack get by them!!
And what of the, “We’re fighting them over there so we don’t have to fight them here” mantra?? Another total failure!! Just where are our National Guard when we need them?? Deployed 10,000 miles away while we were just attacked here!! That’s a total failure of military planing!! If al-Qaeda really did set those fires, we have to bring our troops home to protect us — NOW!! (I think the nutters at FOX just shot their plans to open a new front in Iran in the head!!)
Like roy at alicublog points out:
[I]n our current, lunatic discourse, this approach may have reached a point of diminishing returns. If you continually support and enable the crazy things your mouthpieces emit, they have no incentive to tone it down. They’ll just keep getting crazier. And ordinary people who aren’t part of the million-man rugby scrum of bare-knuckle politics won’t take into account your perceived necessity to defend their indefensible statements: they’ll just assume that you’re crazy, too.
Tell a guy who isn’t particularly political what Glenn Beck said. I doubt he’ll think, oh, this is just more liberal battlespace preparation, whatever the fuck that is. He’ll probably think Glenn Beck is crazy. He doesn’t need Media Matters to tell him that.

What amazes me is the wingtards’ ability to jump through an endless series of hoops, never touching reality at all.
Let us hope that Malkin and Beck are the last of their kind. Worse scum never existed.

Fires are part of nature. Try to stay out of their way. Some of the homes burnt didn’t have a lot of trees around them. Embers travel easily.
However, I do think that a person should be individually responsible for where they decide to live. I shouldn’t pay more for my insurance because you live an area more prone to natural disasters than my area. It is a choice. Your choice and mine. It isn’t evil or wrong. It just carries different risks.
Arson ignored, some areas burn more than others. Arson should be prosecuted, but most folks aren’t arsonists. We need to better pick our areas of habitation. Mother Nature doesn’t negotiate.
I hate insurance companies, but they should be able to assign risk based on where risk exists. It’s their business.
They should be made to pay anything they agree to insure. Enforcing that obligation is a necessary public function.
They shouldn’t be allowed to weasel out of their obligation. They shouldn’t be made to insure any obligation they didn’t agree to insure.
I do hope that the folks in Southern, CA are OK. Another public function is caring for and supporting your fellow Americans.
Tell us what you need, and it will come. Why the hell didn’t we do it for New Orleans?

I agree. I remember my father and
I saying the same thing back in 1993, as the Mississippi made one of its periodic visits to towns along the riverbank.

Ouch, yes it did. Those hundred year floods hurt. We have such a short memory. So many things have changed environmentaly. An area that was safe yesterday, may not be safe today. It’s a tough call.
I still say you must be responsible for your choice and keep your eyes open.
Scumbags will try to sell you anything. Caveat Emptor is the rule of the day. I don’t like any more than you.
As I always say, rely on your neighbors. They are your friends.

I’m a Cherokee. I remember relatives who were much older shaking their heads at the people who built in floodplains. We did not do it; floodplains might be good places for hunting and growing things, but they aren’t good places to put down roots.
While I think most people can agree that Skeletor and Brownie botched NOLA so badly that they are in fact responsible for many hundreds of deaths, I also think the time has come to open a discussion on whether or not sections of the city shouldn’t be returned to their natural state. They will be whether we want to or not.

Officials blamed a wildfire that consumed more than 38,000 acres and destroyed 21 homes last week on a boy playing with matches, and said they would ask a prosecutor to consider the case.
“He admitted to playing with matches and accidentally starting the fire,” Hecht said in a statement.
Police did not release the boy’s name. Los Angeles County fire Capt. Michael Brown only would say Wednesday that he was younger than 13.
The boy was released to his parents, and the case will be presented to the district attorney’s office, Hecht said. It was not clear if he had been arrested or cited by detectives.
Arson investigators first talked to the boy’s parents on Oct. 22 after determining the blaze began the day before in the back yard of their Agua Dulce home, Brown said.
The home was not damaged in the fire, Brown said.
Investigators initially considered a downed power line as the source of the fire, but never officially listed it as the cause.

Them “turrists” are getting younger every day.
Rarely is the question asked, “Is our youngsters Islamo-Fascists?”
