An Award Of a Different Sort

I’m not a touchy-feely kind of guy, so this award from Brother Tim was both a shock and a pleasant surprise. Let’s look at Brother Tim’s post for clues on how it is a pissed off grouch came to deserve such an honor :)

Blogger Friendship Award

“These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers. Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.”

Charming? Eh….. I suppose even rats are charming in the right settings. But what the Brother says is absolutely true:

I have found my blogging-buddies to be some of the most sensitive, caring, and loving people around. Though they may not be physically ‘in-your-face’, they are always there to give of their time, effort, and understanding when you need it. THAT is the greatest gift a friend can give. Even though we may have differing points of view at times, we stay connected through that common golden thread, the human heart.

There are some really decent people doing this thing that we do, and quite a few of them reach out to others with kind words, encouragement, and a pat on the back, delivered in HTML. I’d like to recognize some of these folks here, because they certainly deserve the recognition.

Heidi of Virus Head is a long-time friend of this disgusting rag. She’s also very human in her writings, no matter what they are about.

Spicy Bug, the former Mrs. Hell on High Heels. A Pennsylvania native in the alien environment of Florida, and STILL one of the good ones.

Lydia Cornell, who tries hard to remember all of us who have intersected with her

Mad Mike, of Mad Mike’s America is one of the more thoughtful posters of the left blogosphere

J.D., of The Modern Left writes some really thoughtful posts and comments, and is a very personable and gracious host when you comment at TML.

Marc Lord, of Adored By Hordes is a new father and a passionate progressive.

Jim, of An Average American Patriot is busy as a beaver, reading, commenting, throwing his two cents in.

And last but certainly not least, I want to highlight a guy who doesn’t appear to have his own blog up and active, but nonetheless this is a guy who has been almost tirelessly encouraging to those of us in the left sphere. When nobody read this awful rag, this guy was here, urging me to tell the truth. Because of him, I suspect a lot of people who might have quit went right on telling the truth. Since he doesn’t have a blog I can link to, I’m going to hook up to his Facebook profile, and encourage you to add him as a friend.

Who? The tireless Larry, of course.

Jolly my ole blogging buddy, thank you very much. Yes I am in alien hell down here, rednecks to the left of me jokers to the right…I’m stuck. Just the other day, my next door neighbor was telling me that Iraq caused 911 and pulling out was a huge mistake. It’s so hard to be surrounded by brain dead parrots.

  2. Brother Tim Says:

Good choices, all, JR. Your Brautiganesque style wouldn’t work in a True Romance venue. ‘Pissed off grouch’? Only the occassional passing wingturd really believes that. The rest of us can all see through that masquarade. Now, had you said ‘old snarky barefoot hillbilly’ it would have had some currency to it. But hey, old snarky barefoot hillbillys are really quite lovable. ;) Peace, Bro, you deserved it.

  3. Brother Tim Says:

And a good observation about the alien environment of Florida. It took me just over 10 years to escape. Thank God for the modern ‘Interstate Rairoad’. :)

  4. J.D. Says:

Thank you so much for the kind words. I enjoy reading both your blog and the comments you leave at TML. :)

  5. Larry Says:

Congrats on your award Jolly it is much deserved. You took this blog that you called “rags” and brought it to riches for us all.

I appreciate the kind words and although I have no blog of my own you have always made me feel at home here as you have shown me that people matter more than how many comments a blog can get.

Congrats on a well deserved award and Thank you for allowing me to be a part of what you do here.

  6. Heidi Says:

JR – You deserve it! Your abrasive style comes from a heartfelt patriotism (not imperialism or nationalism) – better to speak your truth than to give in to apathy or resignation. Your words call to conscience, and that is a highly ethical endeavor. And – it’s not a “disgusting rag” (laughing).

I’m also honored that you consider me human, especially as an escapee of the JW Borg. I salute you as one of my favorite Hill-Williams (you’re no hillbilly).

    Hugs – Heidi

  7. Adorable Girlfriend Says:

AG’s blog will never be called “charming” we the language we use over there.

  8. JollyRoger Says:

AG…. stick around. The language isn’t exactly that of Edna St. Vincent Millay around here, either.
