So Much for the “Partisan Witch Hunt” Argument

When Cheney’s flunky, “Scooter” Libby, got indicted and convicted, everyone from Chimpy on down in the wingtard world either inferred that Pat Fitzgerald went after Libby for purely partisan reasons, or they accused Fitzgerald outright. They ignored that Fitzgerald had always been a Gopper, and was introduced to us by none other than the Administration of Saint Ronnie.

I would love to hear the wingtard take on what Fitzgerald is up to these days. Unless Pat gets real confused by all the witch-hunting he does and made a mistake, he just deliberately went after a dem, and a fairly prominent dem at that. Tell us again, ‘tards, how this guy is a tool of Howard Dean and the DNC. I loved that fairy tale when you were telling it, and it REALLY resonates now, doesn’t it?

Gov. Rod Blagojevich and his chief of staff John Harris were arrested today by FBI agents on federal corruption charges.

Updated at 9:17 a.m.: Blagojevich also was alleged to be using a favors list, made up largely of individuals and firms that have state contracts or received taxpayer benefits, from which to conduct a $2.5 million fundraising drive before year’s end.

Even Blagojevich’s recently announced $1.8 billion plan for new interchanges and “green lanes” on the Illinois Tollway was subject to corruption, prosecutors alleged.

The complaint repeatedly references conversations secretly recorded by federal authorities.

The criminal complaint alleges Blagojevich expected an unnamed highway concrete contractor to raise a half-million dollars for his campaign fund in exchange for state money for the tollway project. “If they don’t perform, (expletive) ‘em,” Blagojevich said, according to the complaint.

And if you’re a frigging criminal, (expletive) YOU. It seems like a special cellhouse ought to be constructed for Illinois Governors and their aides, since all of them seem to be criminals. The voters iof Illinois don’t seem to be able to catch a break when they vote for Governor.Maybe instead of a Primary process next cycle, Illinois voters should just be given a choice from a slatre of guys recently paroled from prison-at least that way, they’ll know in advance what it is they’re getting.

Patrick Fitzgerald, as always, is doing some good work here. And, AS ALWAYS, he doesn’t care what party affiliation you have. Isn’t it a shame that Chimpy didn’t hire more Pat Fitzgeralds, instead of trying to fire everybody in the DoJ who possessed integrity?

Illinois politics is notoriously corrupt, but has this guy done anything that doesn’t occur daily on the National level? This is the reality of big money politics. If we don’t demand change, we should just learn to live with it. If we were serious about change, we would insist on a personal property forfeiture law applied to public servants who are convicted of corruption. We would also outlaw all private political financing.
It is a odd coincidence that his indictment is announced just after he publicly pulls state biz away from Bank of America. Maybe he was under threat to “perform” as well and he didn’t? Makes my conspiracy sense tingle.

It’s easier to keep saying that “insert any scandal here” is a partisan witch hunt than to address what really is going on. Democrats are not above corruption. Corruption is corruption!!
