Klanservative “Values” On Display. Obama Waffles

Maybe Johnny hasn’t resorted to referring to Barack Obama as a n*****r yet, but there’s only one reason he hasn’t.

He doesn’t have to. His surrogates will do it for him, as you can see from this product being hawked at the recent “values” summit. I’m sure a lot of the good, righteous “Christian” attendees snapped up a box or two-or more.

This really is all that the 2008 election campaign is going to boil down to. Johnny and Sarahpoleon are demonstrably inadequate for the jobs they want, and they are going to have to lean on the inherent racism in today’s Republican Party to get themselves elected (or appointed, if the race is close enough. Right, Antonin?) to the Presidency. I would be aggravated, but not terribly surprised, to see signs proclaiming “DON’T VOTE FOR THE N*****R” go up in yards before this election cycle is over.

But it’s all cool. In today’s Gopperdom, winning is all that matters. Honesty, or coherent policy, simply are not required anymore. The Republican standard these days isn’t the elephant; it is that old burning cross…

Activists at a conservative political forum snapped up boxes of waffle mix depicting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama as a racial stereotype on its front and wearing Arab-like headdress on its top flap.

Values Voter Summit organizers cut off sales of Obama Waffles boxes on Saturday, saying they had not realized the boxes displayed “offensive material.” The summit and the exhibit hall where the boxes were sold had been open since Thursday afternoon.

The box was meant as political satire, said Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, two writers from Franklin, Tenn., who created the mix. They sold it for $10 a box from a rented booth at the summit sponsored by the lobbying arm of the Family Research Council.

David Nammo, executive director of the lobbying group FRC Action, said summit organizers were told the boxes were a parody of Obama’s policy positions but had not examined them closely.

Republican Party stalwarts Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney were among speakers at the forum, which officials said drew 2,100 activists from 44 states.

While Obama Waffles takes aim at Obama’s politics by poking fun at his public remarks and positions on issues, it also plays off the old image of the pancake-mix icon Aunt Jemima, which has been widely criticized as a demeaning stereotype. Obama is portrayed with popping eyes and big, thick lips as he stares at a plate of waffles and smiles broadly.

Placing Obama in Arab-like headdress recalls the false rumor that he is a follower of Islam, though he is actually a Christian.

On the back of the box, Obama is depicted in stereotypical Mexican dress, including a sombrero, above a recipe for “Open Border Fiesta Waffles” that says it can serve “4 or more illegal aliens.” The recipe includes a tip: “While waiting for these zesty treats to invade your home, why not learn a foreign language?”

The novelty item also takes shots at 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry, Obama’s wife, Michelle, and Obama’s former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

The Obama campaign declined to comment.

Wearing white chef’s aprons, Whitlock and DeMoss were doing a brisk business at noon Saturday selling the waffle mix to people crowded around their booth. Two pyramids of waffle mix boxes stood several feet high on the booth’s table.

“It’s the ultimate political souvenir,” DeMoss told a customer.

Asked if he considered the pictures of Obama on the box to be racial stereotypes, Whitlock said: “We had some people mention that to us, but you think of Newman’s Own or Emeril’s — there are tons and tons of personality-branded food products on the market. So we’ve taken that model and, using political satire, have highlighted his policies, his position changes.”

Have you ever seen such mealymouthed bullshit in your life? I’m guessing these two would sell white hoods as”winter ski wear.” And I’m quite sure the only thing the Klanservative Jesusistanis in charge of this show found “offensive” was all the attention they were getting.

“Klanservative” – awesome word. Please submit to urban dictionary. How else can one truly portray the irony of the fusion of “Klan Values” with “conservative values”
in one simple expression. Do you mind if the rest of the world borrows this term?

I hate the supposed jokes and BS lightening up of the race which is just a way to hide dirty politics as you know!
Barack Obama can only become president by mustering a turnout that will surpass the votes he is not going to get. This may well mean that more black Americans than ever will have to go to the polls, if only because the electorate is predominantly white, and it isn’t clear how their votes will go. Obstacles to getting blacks to vote have always been formidable, but this year there will be barriers—some new, some long-standing—that previous campaigns have not had to face.
For many years, the momentum was toward making the franchise universal. Property qualifications were ended; the poll tax was nullified; the voting age was lowered to eighteen. But now strong forces are at work to downsize the electorate, ostensibly to combat fraud and strip the rolls of voters who are ineligible for one reason or another. But the real effect is to make it harder for many black Americans to vote, largely because they are more vulnerable to challenges than other parts of the population.

This response about Newman’s and Emeril is pure non-sequitur. I guess there is some hope there that any comparison of something that is offensive to something that is not will make the former appear to belong with the latter. If you buy that you’ll probably go for the Chewbacca defense too.

Mushrooms may grow on horseshit, but that doesn’t mean that horseshit makes a delicious accompaniment to a nice steak.

This is disgusting. No surprise it comes from two Tennesseans. I recall that the lowlife behind the race-baiting, white woman/black man attack ad against Rep. Harold Ford Jr. in 2006 was a Tennessean whom McCain made one of his campaign chiefs last fall. Tennessee is also one of the original spawning grounds of Christian fundamentalism and remains a stronghold.

This is the same kind of crap as those blue Band-Aids used to mock John Kerry at the ‘04 GOP convention.

Conservative Republicans know people don’t like their ideology and how they rule when they get power. So, conservative Republicans resort to peddling hatefulness, bigotry — anything and everything, no matter how low and dirty, to help them win by smearing and tearing opponents down.

They will only stop after they have lost several elections and it becomes clear to them their hate-peddling and smears aren’t working any more. I hope and pray this is the year Americans get started with that hard and long overdue lesson.

After the wingnut leaders were made “aware” of this Obama Waffle Mix, they either 1) pretended to be shocked and said they didn’t know about it, or 2) said it was just satire, just good clean fun. Riiight.

Of course, of course. I coined the term for widespread use; it warms my heart to see it plastered all over the place.
