A lot of people think that Johnny is going to try to sway all those angry PUMA types by picking a woman for his VP running mate. Of course, Johnny will have to be careful when considering his running mate, since any woman is going to be an immediate affront to the Klanservative wingtard Gopper base. Johnny will, therefore, have to pick one with a proven record of self-loathing in order to placate the substantial percentage of his base that still see women as good for nothing but cooking, cleaning, and producing wee ones.

Kay Bailey Hutchinson is certainly one of those women. Her voting record has been solidly anti-woman throughout her political career. As a dependable wingtard, Johnny couldn’t pick one much further to the right. He’d also be hard-pressed to find a bigger hypocrite than Hutchinson, who we should all remember for her insistence that Clinton was some kind of a megacriminal for having fudged about having extramarital sex-but that Chimpy was guilty of absolutely nothing since no Grand Jury had been impaneled to hear about his murderous Iraq lie.

Hypocrisy is no vice in the Republican Party, of course. But Kay’s walking away from her own felony on a technicality just might be. For those who may have forgotten, I’d like to remind you of the seriousness of Kay’s crimes, and how it was she never stood before a Judge to answer for them.

In 1994 the Dallas Observer’s Miriam Rozen gained access to grand jury documents in the case against Kay Bailey Hutchison. I can’t find the article online, but I managed to find a contemporaneous Texas Monthly article that quotes largely from the piece. The testimony starts with employees, former coworkers and others noting her abusive behavior around the office. She literally threw a book at a subordinate and kept her office in a state of fear while she was Treasurer. These employees testify that when she told them to start destroying documents that showed her using state-paid staff, offices and other taxpayer-funded resources for her own political activities, they made copies behind her back.

These documents proved damaging, but a technicality threw most of the evidence out of the case. Many are still baffled by Earle’s decision to drop the case, a decision many felt he didn’t have to make. The judge, equally surprised, quickly selected and swore in a jury and instructed them to acquit her, rather than simply dropping the case. As a result, the charges died and most Texans have forgotten that Kay Bailey Hutchison was a prime suspect in a large-scale political corruption scandal.

Ronnie Earle had KBH dead to rights in that case, and a technicality saved her from the slammer and let her rise through the ranks of the US Senate (to the point that she is a possible candidate for President or Vice President). He had her cold, just like he did the other THREE Republicans he had indicted (as opposed to the 12 Democrats) so when DeLay’s defenders talk about that case, they are splitting hairs in the name of defending America’s most corrupt politician.

A look at Kay’s career as a Texas State official is most revealing. She and Johnny share a lot of the same traits-as in, a hair-trigger temper and no hesitation to accept gratuities from whoever may be offering them. Kay does Johnny one better because she was clearly a grafting Treasurer, and the documentation to prove it still exists. Johnny, as far as I know, has never been accused of stealing directly from the Government; he prefers to do his indirectly, by steering Federal money towards the lobbyists who own him (and of course they then steer some of that money back to HIM for services rendered. Helluva deal, ain’t it?)

I think Johnny should go ahead and make Kay his pandering pick for VP. If the dems can’t take HER apart, they might as well fold up and go home.
