The Death Penalty In Jesusistan. Evil Unencumbered
If you could, take some time to drop by 1115.org or Mixter’s Mix (where Micki has a personal perspective on the subject of the death penalty that most of us don’t have,) and read what the righteous State of Georgia is about to do to a man whose guilt seems far from certain.
As I’ve said many times here, the death penalty simply makes no practical sense except for purposes of revenge, and if we look at murder rates in non-dp vs. dp States, the ultimate punishment appears to encourage murder. In the case of Troy Davis, it looks to me like it may well be the good people of the State of Georgia who are the murderers this time. No way should a case with this kind of doubt surrounding it ever proceed to a point where an execution occurs.
Sadly, this is yet another example of “justice” in the righteous realm of Jesusistan.

What satisfaction could anyone possibly get from punishing the wrong person? How could you sleep at night knowing you had caused a human being to die for something he may not have done?

I read about that, hopefully they will listen and there will be no arrogance with the justice system as usual when it is plain a wrong was done. Someone should look at all the cases Bush happily seen to the end.
Roger,
What do you know about this? These names sound so familiar, you know? Anyway, that one name that was discussed on SQ’s site is mentioned.

Todays democracy now, Democracynow.org 7/17 – show is devoted entirely to the death penalty , particularly a couple of cases in Georgia. Its barbaric, its regressive, and truly a shame on the USA. And believe it – other Industrial Nations, notice our barbarity. Video streams of the entire hour can be found on the web-site. Well worth an hr of your time.

Probably do to embarrassment, the Georgia parole board has granted a 90 day stay of execution. Several blogs publicized this story, including mime. Yesterday CNN picked it up.

I’ve been aware of the story for awhile, but it was getting saturated in the blogosphere-and I tend to shy away from those stories. I did, and do, want to restate my opposition to execution as a method of punishment whenever I can, and this looked like a good way to do that.
