It has been said, many times now, by many different people, that Mama Grifter dealt women in Rushpubliscum politics a serious setback with her selection as McCoot’s running mate in 2008. Her breathtaking ignorance and shameless self-centered money and attention grubbing disgusted all but a fringe of idiots on the far right of the Rushpubliscum Party. In sharp contrast to most of the rest of us, those idiots STILL insist that McCoot brought the Earth the Second Coming, and that the only reason Mama Grifter gets so much bad press is ‘cuz them LIBRULS is AFRAID of her!

Well, idiots, I have some news for you. It isn’t the libruls who are afraid of Mama Grifter, and it sure as hell ain’t us who are fearful of the effect she’s had on the perception of women in politics.

But I can tell you who IS afraid of being associated with her, even in the abstract.

As speculation about Mitt Romney‘s vice-presidential selection begins to heat up, MSNBC reported Tuesday that some Romney advisers think it’s unlikely the former Massachusetts Governor will select a woman for his VP candidate. “I think unfortunately, [Sarah] Palin poisoned the well on that,” an informal Romney adviser said, adding that Romney probably worries that “any woman chosen will be subjected to higher level of scrutiny.”

This is, in a lot of ways, a damn shame. Some of us remember when sensible, honorable women actually held office as Republicans. People like Christine Todd Whitman, or Marjorie Holt. And historically, some exceptional women served as Republicans in public office, like Margaret Chase Smith,  Catharine May, and Clare Boothe Luce. All of the barriers they broke, and all of the strides they made, were more-or-less re-erected and erased by one greedy, self-centered, and profoundly ignorant woman.

Eh-ignorance is what the Rushpubliscum Party is all about these days, no matter what your gender, race, or religion may be.
